Getting Past Covid – Clear and Ambitious Business Thinking

Getting past Covid? For many organisations, normal business came to a standstill in March. Nevertheless, for those that are fortunate enough to still be going their focus now needs to shift beyond simply ‘keeping the lights on’ to adapting to the new norm and finding new ways to succeed and grow.

Forward thinking organisations getting past Covid-19 must, therefore, identify new targets and new priorities that will deliver value as and when the recovery starts, and the new norm is better understood.

Now is not the time for business decision makers to stick their heads in the sand and hope they can simply ride this out. Success will rely on innovative thinking now that will deliver benefits tomorrow.

Time to think more broadly, more strategically, more long term is a luxury many now have that they previously did not. How management teams take advantage of this will be key to their organisations’ future.

So ask yourself: What can we do now in this current situation that we couldn’t do before? What were you doing previously that was either stale, stuck in a rut or not adequately tested, reviewed and adapted due to a lack of time and daily business priorities? What prescribed thinking that had previously appeared ‘cast in stone’ can today be successfully challenged and re-evaluated? What new objectives can we set today that will contribute to tomorrow’s new challenges?

If businesses do not adopt a new thought process during this uncertain period, one that specifically looks to take advantage of this new social/business reality, many organisations will, most likely, stagnate and wither under the pressure of growing pessimism, negativity and hard decisions.

Yes, the basics need to be right, but if this is all that is done without any consideration to the future, a new reality, new challenges and opportunities, then sustaining an organisation in tomorrow’s business environment could become even harder, and for many, impossible!

If you need another opinion or perspective to help with your innovative thought and planning, I’d love to help.
